Waiting For Baby

What to do while waiting

For many expectant moms, it can seem like those last few weeks drag on and on.  You may be getting a bit uncomfortable and finding it harder to sleep at night.  You are probably getting more and more excited to finally see your little one.  So what can you do to pass the time?

1st Time Moms

If this is your first baby, we want to remind you that your days and nights of relaxation and quiet reflection many be put on hold for awhile (about 18 years!)

PATACAKE POINTER: Spend this time relaxing, writing in your pregnancy journal or baby album, listen to your favorite music, watch a favorite video and generally just take it easy.

Delivery is an exhausting, although exhilarating experience both mentally and physically. Prepare for it by taking time for yourself and resting as much as you can.

If you have the all too common Nesting Instinct, just make sure  you don't climb up any tall ladders or try to move large pieces of furniture by yourself.  Pregnancy can throw off your balance and it could result in an unnecessary injury.

If you are feeling ambitious, you can address the birth announcements, pack your suitcase for the hospital, or clean out your sock drawer.  You get the idea.

Moms with Kids

If you have other kids at home you may already know that finding quiet time for yourself can be difficult.  You may not be feeling quite as energetic these last few weeks.  Watching family videos may be a great, relaxing way to include the whole family before the new baby arrives.  Let your kids know what they were like as a baby.  If time allows, one-on-one time with each child is a great way to spend quality time before the arrival of the new baby.  It's also a good time to talk about any fears your child may have.

Of course, you can still try to write in your pregnancy journal (starting now is not too late!), purchase a baby book, or pack your suitcase for the hospital.  Letting your kids help you pack might help them feel more involved.

PATACAKE POINTER: Don't try to get everything done.  Parents  know how unrealistic this can be.  Set a few priorities for these last few weeks and don't burden yourself with anything not on your list.

Your baby will be here soon!
